Absolutely not. Some customers think that in-transit fumigation is quick fumigation. This is not exact. Coming from the purpose of saving time for ships, International Maritime Organization (IMO) has regulations for in-transit fumigation in the document of Recommendations on the Safe Use Pesticides in Ship. In-transit fumigation is carried out when all regulations and conditions are well-observed. After putting chemicals in hold, checking safe status at all locations in accordance with regulations, fumigation staff give guidance and hand-over next tasks in the journey to the captain such as adequate exposure time in conformity with characteristics of chemicals, safety, aerating in right way, preventing re-infestation etc. and then the ship will depart. Therefore, in practice, there’s no concept for quick fumigation but in-transit fumigation only.
